WAV looks like the production choice, FLAC promises a smaller lossless copy, and MP3 is easy to play almost anywhere. The short answer is: download WAV for cleanup, mixing, or mastering when it is available; use FLAC as a lossless archive or production source when your next tool accepts it; choose MP3 for lightweight listening and delivery, or when it is the best original Treblo file you can actually get.

The extension alone does not make one render musically better. Your first job is to preserve the earliest trustworthy export and avoid throwing away more information before you have made the important decisions. Format choice matters, but it cannot repair a wrong lyric, a poor section transition, clipped audio, or a synthetic texture already present in the generated song.

Treblo’s current public homepage describes generation, inpainting, extending, and stem separation. It lists five download families: OGG, MP3, WAV, FLAC, and M4A. The current developer documentation also lists ogg, mp3, wav, flac, and m4a as API output options. That documentation distinguishes final output from live streaming: the stream can use OGG or MP3, while the completed output has the broader format list.

These are official product statements, not a guarantee that every control or file type appears in every context. Availability varies by account and track, and it may also differ between the web app, mobile app, an older song, and the developer API. Open the song you intend to use and check its real download menu before planning the rest of your workflow.

The same caution applies to stems. Treblo publicly lists stem separation, and its Privacy Policy mentions derived material such as audio stems, transcriptions, alignments, and rendered videos. Neither statement proves that a particular song has a vocal stem, an instrumental stem, or every download format you want. Build your decision around the files in front of you.

Rights are a separate preflight. Treblo’s current Terms say that, between you and the service and where law permits, you own whatever rights may exist in outputs you generate. The Terms also say outputs may not be unique and give no warranty about copyrightability or legality. A download button does not provide commercial clearance by itself.

WAV, FLAC and MP3 differences

WAV is usually the least confusing production handoff. A typical Treblo WAV contains PCM audio: the sample values are stored without perceptual compression. The file is comparatively large, but most audio editors accept it directly. Choose it when you plan to clean the full mix, import tracks into a DAW, send a mix to mastering, or make more than one render before delivery.

FLAC is lossless compression. “Lossless” means the decoder can reconstruct the same audio samples that entered the FLAC encoder. Xiph.Org, the organization behind the format, describes decoded FLAC audio as bit-for-bit identical to its input. FLAC can therefore hold the same source signal in less storage space than an uncompressed PCM WAV, with metadata and integrity features that are useful for an archive.

That does not make FLAC a magic upgrade. If Treblo produced a genuine FLAC and a genuine WAV from the same underlying output, both can serve as lossless sources. The practical choice is compatibility. Use FLAC if your editor, collaborator, or archive accepts it. Decode it once to a PCM WAV when the next tool requires WAV, and record that conversion so nobody mistakes the working file for a separate render.

MP3 is lossy. It reduces file size by discarding or simplifying information according to a perceptual model. A well-made MP3 can sound good, especially for casual listening, but exposed cymbals, vocal air, and reverb tails are difficult material. Cleanup or repeated encoding can make a swirly edge, sandy transient, or unstable ambience easier to notice.

MP3 still has a clear job. It is small, widely compatible, and convenient for sending a listening copy. If Treblo only offers an MP3 for the song in front of you, that original MP3 is a better source than a social-media rip or a copy that has already passed through another encoder. Keep it untouched, do your work in a lossless session, and make the next MP3 only when the delivery needs one.

I usually check the busiest chorus first. That is where cymbals, vocal air, and reverb compete for space, so both generator texture and lossy encoding become harder to ignore. I then play an exposed verse or intro to hear whether the same roughness follows the vocal or disappears with the dense arrangement.

Full-song vs vocal/instrumental choice

Choose the musical object before you choose its format. A lossless file of the wrong source is still the wrong source.

Start with the full song when the arrangement and balance already work. Full-song WAV is the usual choice for broad post-export cleanup because you hear the exact relationship between vocal, drums, bass, instruments, and reverb that the listener will hear. It is also the correct source for mastering once cleanup and mixing decisions are finished.

Use a vocal or instrumental file when the problem lives inside the balance and you intend to mix the parts. A harsh vocal that needs its own de-essing, or cymbals that need treatment without darkening the singer, calls for separated material when Treblo actually supplies aligned files for that song. Export every part from the same version and check that the files start together before you build a session.

Do not treat “instrumental” as an automatic synonym for “backing stem.” It may be a separately generated instrumental song rather than the exact accompaniment from a vocal render. Play it against the vocal and confirm timing, length, arrangement, and transitions. If the two do not align, return to Treblo’s available generation or editing controls instead of forcing cleanup to solve a musical mismatch.

Generation and editing come first when the content is wrong. Lossy-detail boundary

Converting MP3 to WAV or FLAC does not recover the source that existed before MP3 encoding. The converter decodes the information that remains in the MP3 and stores those decoded samples in a new lossless container. The result may be easier for an editor to open, and it avoids a further lossy save while you work, but it is not a restored master.

File size can be deceptive here. A WAV decoded from a small MP3 may be many times larger while containing no more original detail. Renaming the extension changes nothing. Upsampling or selecting a higher bit depth can be useful for a processing session, yet it cannot recreate the exact discarded cymbal texture, stereo ambience, or vocal air.

Cleanup has the same boundary. It may reduce metallic ringing, glassy harshness, hiss, or another distracting texture in what remains. It cannot restore the exact codec data removed from a lossy export, reconstruct an original instrument, or prove what Treblo’s model produced before encoding. Listen for a smaller, believable improvement rather than an impossible reversal.

Use a stop criterion. Match the loudness of the original and processed versions, switch between the same passage, and stop when the named distraction is lower while the vocal expression, transient attack, stereo width, and energy remain. Back off if another pass mainly makes the song darker, flatter, narrower, or more watery.
